About Us

Who we are and why CTI exists.

Commercial Trust Index (CTI) was created to bridge the gap between publicly available payment data and practical commercial insight. Rather than simply presenting raw reporting information, CTI transforms payment reporting data into a structured commercial behaviour assessment that helps organisations understand what the data actually means.

Our mission

To improve visibility of commercial payment behaviour and help organisations make more informed decisions.

We believe that when payment behaviour becomes easier to understand, businesses can make better choices, commercial relationships become stronger, and markets become more transparent and accountable.

The problem we saw

A significant visibility gap

Every day, organisations make critical commercial decisions about who they work with, who they appoint, and who they trust within their supply chains. Yet despite increasing levels of transparency, many of those decisions are still made with limited visibility of how companies actually behave commercially.

Payment reporting requirements have made large volumes of information publicly available — but access to data does not automatically create understanding. Much of this information remains difficult to interpret, compare, and apply in real-world decision-making.

Organisations often lack visibility of

  • How consistently a company pays its suppliers
  • Whether payment behaviour is improving or deteriorating
  • Commercial trends indicating changing behaviour
  • How one organisation compares with others
  • Potential payment concerns before entering relationships

Greater transparency benefits

  • Procurement teams — stronger supplier assessment tools
  • Suppliers — greater confidence in commercial partners
  • Investors — better visibility into commercial behaviour
  • Industry bodies — clearer insight into market performance
  • Businesses — greater confidence in new relationships
Our response

Using a consistent methodology, CTI converts publicly reported payment information into commercial behaviour scores, trend analysis, behavioural indicators, market comparisons, and structured commercial insight. The objective is not to replace professional judgement, accreditation schemes, or financial assessments — our purpose is to provide an additional layer of visibility that supports more informed commercial decision-making.

Our long-term vision

A CTI Score for every business

Today, CTI is built using publicly reported payment information, providing a structured and consistent view of commercial payment behaviour among larger organisations. But this represents only part of the wider business community.

Our long-term ambition is to create a future where every business has a CTI Score, regardless of its size, sector, turnover, or number of employees. We believe transparency should not be limited to organisations that meet statutory reporting thresholds.

Building a more transparent commercial environment

CTI is built on a simple principle: you cannot improve what you cannot see. By transforming complex payment reporting data into meaningful insight, we aim to support a more transparent, accountable, and commercially informed business environment for businesses of every size — from sole traders and small enterprises to multinational organisations.
